The Fargo Airport is located about four miles northwest of downtown Fargo. The Fargo Airport is known as Hector International Airport (Website: http://www.fargoairport.com/ ). It was named after Martin Hector, who donated the land the airport is situated on. The airport was the intended destination for the airplane carrying Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. Richardson (the Big Bopper) on February 3, 1959. The airplane crashed shortly after takeoff from Clear Lake, Iowa killing the 3 musicians and the pilot. Fargo is a decent alternative/gateway to Winnipeg, Manitoba (3 hrs. 45 min.), Minneapolis, Minnesota (3 hrs. 45 min.), or Duluth, Minnesota (5 hrs.). The following car rental companies have counters at the airport: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, and National. If you're a baseball fan, check out the Roger Maris Museum (Website: http://www.rogermarismuseum.com/ ) in Fargo. As for food, we would nominate the following four restaurants in Fargo for the best food: Acapulco Mexican Restaurant at 1150 36th Street South; or Sammy's Pizza and Restaurant at 301 Broadway North; or Doolittles Woodfire Grill at 2212 25th Street South; or the Hodo Restaurant at 101 Broadway North in the Hotel Donaldson (Website: http://www.hoteldonaldson.com/ ).
